Wat Arun, also known as the Temple of Dawn, is one of Bangkok’s most recognizable landmarks. Located along the west bank of the Chao Phraya River, the temple is famous for its towering central prang decorated with colorful porcelain mosaics and intricate detailing.
Visitors can climb partway up the central tower for panoramic river views, especially stunning during sunset when the temple glows against the skyline. The temple’s architectural style reflects Khmer influence and remains one of the most photographed religious sites in Thailand.
It is an active Buddhist temple, so modest dress is required. Wat Arun is easily accessible by river ferry and makes an excellent stop when exploring Bangkok’s Old Town area.
